At GOOD Ideas for Cities' special program for Spontaneous Interventions at the U.S. Pavilion of the 13th International Venice Architecture Biennale, Spedstudio presents their ideas for improving connections between diverse communities of Venice.
Challenge: Venice has always been a melting pot of cultures, yet it is now populated by different communities that pass each other without really meeting: tourists, students, commuters and residents inhabit separate, parallel worlds that rarely merge. How can Venice's transportation routes and connections be re-thought and re-created, within and beyond the city, to encourage interaction between different groups and promote new ways of encounter?
Spedstudio's plan: 1. We need to SURRENDER what is inevitably lost; 2. We need to REBRAND the image of the city to reduce tourist pression; 3. We need to REGAIN the public space and its uses; 4. We need to ACT now and start our own individual counterattack.
Spedstudio was invited as a tutor for international design workshop Roma 3.0, to be held at the School of Architecture of Rome 3 from the 5th to the 10th of November. Moderators of this edition, as well as a-scape, architecture critic Valerio Paolo Mosco.
